KENDRICK THE ARTIST

Abstract Expressionist Painter

Kendrick's early years were spent in Pennsylvania.  He remembers as a young boy looking forward to receiving the SATURDAY EVENING POST each week so that he could sit down and draw the covers replicating the works of Norman Rockwell.  His gift for art was seen clearly at this early age.  His ability to draw and create, his use of color and paint.  It was as if he was born with a paint brush in his hand.  After majoring in engineering in college, he served his time in the army, and then decided to follow his dream of pursuing a career in art.  He was accepted at Pratt Institute where he studied under the tutelage of Richard Lindner.  It was Lindner's strong belief in his work which convinced Kendrick to pursue a career in painting.

After finishing at Pratt he traveled extensively throughout the United States, living for awhile in New Orleans, La Jolla and Mexico City.  He currently resides in the Hudson Valley Area of NY.

Mrs. Flora Biddle, former Honorary Chairman of the Board of the WHITNEY MUSEUM in NYC said:  "I am proud to have one of David Kendrick's paintings as part of my private collection.  I feel very lucky to have met Kendrick, who is an artist to be reckoned with.  His impact on the art world will be felt well into the next millennium and beyond.

MANHATTAN ARTS MAGAZINE had this to say about Kendrick's work:  "passionate, often tempestuous, yet controlled abstractions"  "carefully interwoven, intricately balanced chromatic harmonies exploding with the vigor of cosmic inspiration"  "Kendrick's commanding canvases draw the viewer inward to contemplate the artist's inner vision - and, ultimately, his own."

SPOTLIGHT MAGAZINE quoted Kendrick as saying:  "Behind great art, be it painting, sculpture, dance or music, there is great obsession."  "Painting has a life of its own and it's my job to let it come through."

The late Ivan Karp, who owned the O. K. HARRIS GALLERY in Manhattan said:  "David Kendrick has emerged as a first class abstract painter of great accomplishment and maturity.  His work is full of rich, vibrant color which exudes an intensity of spirit."

The late Allan Stone, owner of the renowned Allan Stone Gallery in NY was a great supporter of Kendrick's work and showed his work over the years in his gallery.  "David Kendrick's works have that 'vibrant' quality with their bold dabs and splotches of bright color, heaped layer upon layer, forming deep compositions.  His paintings are very evocative -- often appearing to have a sense of abandon, but are carefully and elaborately interwoven harmonies originating from a powerfully inspired source."

KENDRICK'S  WORKS are included in many public and private collections including the collection of Mrs. Flora Biddle, former President of the Whitney Museum of Art ,  Leverett Miller, Palm Beach, FL and the late Allan Stone.
