KENDRICK ON KENDRICK

"My art has evolved from my earliest realism period toward bold abstraction.  It is an ever-changing vehicle of continuous movement of shape, form and color.  For me, painting is a daring adventure into the unknown, a quest for truth assisted by the actions of the paint brush.

I work for that inner voice, that search, that unknown, that mystical metamorphosis that sometimes appears and in return sends out vibrations called art."

"When you start painting, you reach for that deep emotional state within that comes from a lot of solitude.  You do not rationalize, rather allow yourself to enter a rhythmic flow that transforms into a work of art.  If you stop for an intellectual decision, you end up with just a painting."

"It is a higher force that drives me to choose specific colors and create images on canvas -- I view myself as the vehicle which communicates the message called art."

"The painting has a life of its own and it's my job to let it come through.  My work process is a soul-searching transformation from the material, guided by a mightier universal power"

"I measure my success by how pleased I am with what I have created."

KENDRICK'S ART

Kendrick 's undaunted abstractions express an ongoing intense exploration into the soul and the unconscious, in opposition to  the eye and the realistic image of picture making.  His work draws the viewer into the  mystical interaction between artist and paint on canvas. With sweeping splashes of fluid color creating a sense of movement, dramatic dabs, dribbles and pools of primary pigment--reds, blues and yellows--as well as strong strokes of black and white--David Kendrick accomplishes an emergence of passionate, intense, yet controlled abstractions. Kendrick's paintings reward the viewer not only with aesthetic delight, but instructive insight as well. His artistic commentary is predominately positive. As Kendrick says, he works for the inner voice which searches the unknown, that mystical metamorphosis that sometimes appears, sending out vibrations called art.

KENDRICK ON ART

"Americans expect great art every season, every fashion change, every flick of the channel-- it doesn't happen that way. There are higher rules, a divine law ruling our universe, of which art is not only a basic need, but a vehicle of movement"

"Does anyone look closely enough to see how abstract Rembrandt really was? One brush stroke tells it all."

"Behind great art, be it painting, sculpture, dance or music-- there is great obsession."

"Art is a form of communication which evokes a specific meaning to each individual viewer."
